The Los Angeles Lakers gained valuable financial flexibility by trading Deandre Ayton to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Jaden Hardy and two second-round picks.

The move created approximately $2.1 million in salary cap savings, giving the front office additional room to complete its offseason plans.

According to Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron, those savings proved to be crucial, as they allowed the Lakers to fit the contracts of free agents Quentin Grimes, Sandro Mamukelashvili, and Walker Kessler into their available cap space.

Without completing the Ayton trade, Los Angeles reportedly would not have had enough financial room to finalize those signings.

The Lakers used the added cap space to complete the reported deals for Quentin Grimes (four years, $60 million), Sandro Mamukelashvili (four years, $52 million), and Walker Kessler (four years, $130 million).
