Everton's summer transfer plans are beginning to take shape as David Moyes looks to strengthen several areas of his squad ahead of the new season, with both midfield and defence expected to be key priorities.

Hayden-Hackney-Boro

Multiple reports have suggested Everton are monitoring the England Under-21 international, who continues to attract Premier League interest after another impressive campaign in the Championship.

Hackney is viewed as one of the division's standout young midfielders, and Everton are understood to admire his technical quality and ability to dictate play from deeper areas.

David Ornstein has even reported that the Hill Dickinson Stadium is Hackney's personal preference when it comes to a summer switch.

The Toffees have also been linked with Man City defender Nathan Ake in recent days, while reports continue to suggest Moyes wants to add proven Premier League experience throughout the squad as Everton look to build on a stable first full campaign under his leadership.

Another position expected to receive significant attention is right-back.

Everton found themselves short of natural options in that area last season.

Jake O'Brien was frequently deployed on the right side of defence despite being a centre-back by trade, while long-serving club captain Seamus Coleman is no longer part of the squad after the end of his contract.

That situation has naturally led to speculation over potential reinforcements, and one familiar name is being personally targeted by Moyes.

David Moyes thinks Aaron Wan-Bissaka is 'perfect' for Everton

According to West Ham insider ExWHUemployee, Everton are showing real interest in Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with Moyes believed to view the defender as an ideal solution to his right-back concerns.

Speaking on The West Ham Way Patreon, Ex also said that there is an expectation both Everton and West Ham will hold a number of talks over players in the coming weeks, due to the connections between both clubs.

"A number of clubs are looking at Aaron Wan-Bissaka as a potential right back option.

“David Moyes have been playing centre back Jake O’Brien at right back this season and seasoned pro Seamus Coleman has also left the club.

"Moyes has always been a fan of the right back and is thought to see him as the perfect solution to his right-back problems.

"Everton have been linked with a number of our players because of the obvious links with the former manager. He has obviously worked with some and maintained good relationships with the board at West Ham too which is thought to make negotiations easier.

“There is also a link with Everton’s CEO Angus Kinnear who worked at West Ham for four years previously too, so there is expected to be a number of conversations between the two clubs in coming weeks.”

The report is an interesting one given Moyes' previous admiration of the player.

Although Wan-Bissaka did not play under Moyes at West Ham, with the Scotsman leaving east London just before he was signed, the Everton manager is understood to have admired the defender's qualities for some time.

For Everton, the attraction is easy to understand.

Wan-Bissaka

At 28, Wan-Bissaka would bring extensive Premier League experience, athleticism and defensive stability to a position that lacked a specialist option for much of last season.

The ex-Man United defender's ability to shut down opposition wingers on a good day would also fit naturally into the disciplined defensive structure Moyes typically prefers.

Whether a deal ultimately materialises remains to be seen, but the logic behind Everton's reported interest is clear.

Moyes wants a natural right-back, and Wan-Bissaka's experience and profile make him a strong fit for the role Everton are looking to fill this summer.

West Ham's need to balance the books after their drop to the Championship also opens the door for Moyes to steal Wan-Bissaka from Nuno Espirito Santo, with a number of Hammers expected to depart.
