After battling injuries and cramping issues throughout his freshman year at Kansas, Darryn Peterson is now focusing on preparing for the 2026 NBA Draft.

Peterson said the physical problems affected both his performance and his role within the offense during the season.

“I was off [the ball] most of the year, but some of that was me not really being myself,” Peterson said. “So, coach was trying to figure out ways to help me still be effective without exerting too much. As the point guard you got to bring it up, you got to do everything.”

Now healthy, Peterson is concentrating on improving his shooting and on-ball playmaking ahead of the draft process.

The highly regarded guard also admitted he has spent time thinking about how different his freshman season could have looked without the health setbacks.

“I’ve been thinking about how differently things could have been [at Kansas] if I didn’t get hurt or have all this stuff going on,” Peterson said. “When I was out there, I felt like I still did all right. But there was another level of me that people didn’t get to see.”
