Former UFC title challenger Darren Till admits he’s worried about how he’ll handle his future retirement after watching other athletes’ struggles.

Dustin Poirier and Anthony Smith were arrested in separate incidents over the past month. After announcing their MMA retirements, Poirier and Smith both acknowledge they’ve struggled mentally with life after fighting.

Former UFC title challenger Darren Till, who faces Yoel Romero in the BKFC Manchester headliner in September, has hinted at a looming retirement after a few more fights. The former UFC standout has made a name for himself outside of Mixed Martial Arts and will look to keep up his positive momentum in the bare-knuckle ring.

After watching Poirier, Smith, and other UFC legends struggle with the initial months after retiring from MMA, Till is worried about what potential roadblocks he’ll face once he hangs up the gloves.

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Till was asked if he worries about retiring after watching Poirier, Smith and others struggle with life after fighting.

“All of them [his circle] are scared as well,” Till said.

“Like they all know the kind of guy I am. So, I do get a bit scared myself for what’s to come. So, I now need to be thinking for three years’ time. What to put in place so it doesn’t get like that.

“That’s not my issue, my problem. The issue is me. The type of guy I am. I’m a million miles, and I’m a hundred times worse than all these other guys.” (h/t Bloody Elbow)

Till went on to clarify that he feels he has at least a few more years left of fighting before seriously considering retirement. After watching some of his former colleagues struggle outside of fighting, Till is already preparing for the long haul.
