Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Chicago Cubs have made a plethora of roster moves ahead of their three-game series against the crosstown rival Chicago White Sox.
It was known that at least one move would have to be made to replace Dansby Swanson on the active roster, but the moves have gone far beyond replacing Swanson.
Two new position players have arrived
It was first made known by Cubs superfan Sam Bernero and later announced by the team that infielder Owen Miller and outfielder Kevin Alcantara had been recalled to the 26-man roster.
Miller will serve as a backup infielder during the absence of Swanson and Alcantara will serve as a backup outfielder and pinch-hit option against left-handed pitching in place of infielder James Triantos, who was optioned to Triple-A Iowa.
Javier Assad is right back with the major league team
Bernero also reported that the recently optioned right-hander Javier Assad was back at Wrigley Field, and he was also announced as part of the roster moves ahead of Monday's series opener.
Assad is replacing Edward Cabrera, who will be placed right back on the 15-day injured list with a right middle finger blister. Cabrera was activated off the injured list Sunday to start against the St. Louis Cardinals, but a poor start has now landed him back out of action.
Chicago will also soon be getting the return of left-handed reliever Hoby Milner, as he too was spotted at Wrigley Field on Monday.
