Cristopher Sanchez finally allowed a run on Wednesday night.

Thanks to a Jackson Merrill RBI single in the top of the seventh inning of the Philadelphia Phillies' 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres, Sanchez's consecutive scoreless inning streak officially came to an end at 50.2 innings.

Cristopher Sanchez's historic scoreless streak ends

At 50.2 innings without allowing a run, Sanchez not only set the Phillies franchise record, but he also posted the fifth-longest scoreless streak in Major League Baseball history.

It falls just 8.1 innings short of Orel Hershiser's record with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Sanchez received an extended standing ovation from Phillies fans following the run, which might be the first — and only — time a Phillies pitcher was enthusiastically cheered in Philadelphia for giving up a run.

He finished Wednesday's game by going seven innings, allowing just four hits, the one run and striking out eight batters. He also walked just one batter.

Sanchez's ERA is down to just 1.46 for the season and has him as one of the early front-runners for the National League Cy Young Award.

He has played a huge role in helping the Phillies turn things around after a slow start to the season.

The Phillies were able to win Wednesday's game thanks to a pair of late home runs from J.T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber.
