Cristopher Sanchez breaks 115-year-old Phillies record in win

Another game, another zero in the runs against column for Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sanchez.

Sanchez was excellent in the Phillies 3-0 victory over the Padres. He fired seven shutout innings, allowing only six hits while striking out nine batters.

That performance pushed his scoreless streak to 44.2 innings, shattering the previous record of 41 innings held by Pete Alexander in 1911.

That performance also moved Sanchez into select company in major league history. He joined Dodgers legend Orel Hershiser (September 1988) as the only pitchers to have a scoreless month where they threw over 30 innings.

Cristopher Sanchez taking aim at more than Phillies record

Sanchez has steadily moved up the all-time major league list as well. Sarah Langs from MLB.com noted that Sanchez has the seventh-longest scoreless inning streak of the live ball era (from 1920 on). His 44.2 consecutive scoreless innings are the 11th-longest streak in MLB history as he is one outing away from tying Cy Young (1904), Doc White (1904) and Sal Maglie (1950) for eighth.

Longest single-season scoreless IP streak, live-ball era (1920):

1988 Orel Hershiser: 59 IP
1968 Don Drysdale: 58 IP
1968 Bob Gibson: 47 IP
2015 Zack Greinke: 45 2/3 IP
1933 Carl Hubbell: 45 1/3 IP
1950 Sal Maglie: 45 IP
2026 Cristopher Sánchez: 44 2/3 IP *active

Another strong outing could push Sanchez even further up the list. Cardinals legend Bob Gibson had a 47-inning scoreless streak in 1968. If Sanchez can record eight outs before giving up a run, he would surpass Gibson on the list.

Sanchez still has a few outings to go before he can threaten Hershiser's record 59 consecutive scoreless innings. However, with the way he has been pitching, that record may not be too far away.
