Colson Montgomery has written quite a tale this season in baseball. He has gone from setting a dubious strikeout record two days before the end of the MLB regular season, to becoming the second youngest player in Chicago White Sox history to hit a postseason home run.

In the final month of the regular season, Montgomery struggled at the plate, going 8-for-81 (.099 batting average) with two home runs, 10 RBI, eight walks and an alarming 42 strikeouts. That includes an ugly 0-for-22 mark over his final six regular-season games, forcing the White Sox to drop him to ninth in the batting order.

But the slugger has made a fresh start in the postseason, blasting a 432-foot home run in Game 1 of the AL wild-card game against the Houston Astros. His first career postseason home run provided Chicago with a 4-0 lead over the Astros.

At 24 years and 214 days, he has reached a key milestone. Montgomery is the second-youngest player in White Sox history to hit a home rune. He's behind only Luis Robert Jr., who accomplished the feat at 23 years and 59 days in Game 3 of the 2020 AL wild-card series.

Colson Montgomery's first career postseason home run can help him rewrite his story

His home run is helping him reset following a subpar second half, during which he batting a poor .163 since the All-Star break. But his big-swing mojo helped him in a big way, adding onto the team's offensive fuel in the game that led to several bases-loaded occurrences.

Montgomery's home run was also the first home run he hit since Sept. 5. A moonshot in his postseason debut could help Montgomery has rewrite his story early in his professional career.

Montgomery faced struggles in the minors, but after his rookie campaign where he hit 21 home runs in 2025, his power surge has become a luxury for the White Sox this season. Montgomery carried his 2025 triumph into this season with a career-high 31 home runs.
