Chris Bosh has urged Victor Wembanyama to take his recovery seriously after the San Antonio Spurs star was diagnosed with the same type of blood-clot condition that forced Bosh into an early retirement.

Wembanyama’s 2024–25 season ended prematurely because of a blood clot, prompting concerns about his long-term health. Speaking with HoopsHype, Bosh emphasized that staying committed to treatment is the most important step.

“Take your medicine,” Bosh said when asked what advice he would give Wembanyama.

“Make sure that he’s staying on top of his regimen to make sure that doesn’t happen again because it only takes one more time. It happened one more time for me, it happened twice, and I couldn’t play anymore.”

Bosh also encouraged the young Spurs star to focus on his health away from basketball.

“So I guess with him, just making sure he does everything necessary to keep that blood as thin as possible and take care of that body off the court,” Bosh added.

His message comes months after revealing that he suffered another pulmonary embolism in January and nearly died.

“I had an episode in January,” Bosh told HoopsHype. “I almost dropped dead pretty much and came back to life. I’m not joking.

“I had another pulmonary embolism. It was in January this past year. I was in the hospital for a week.”
