Chelsea have entered pole position in the race to sign AFC Bournemouth star Alex Scott, and they are now ready to explore a deal.
The Blues failed to replace Enzo Fernandez on deadline day, following the Argentinian's move to Manchester City, with their proposed deal to sign AS Monaco star Lamine Camara falling through in the final stages of the transfer window.
Camara had agreed a move to Stamford Bridge, but Monaco backed out a deal, as they decided to sell Folarin Balogun instead, although the American's move to Everton ultimately fell through too.
As such, Xabi Alonso may need to bring in a new midfielder during the January transfer window, and Scott is known to be one of the top targets, although a move for Atletico Madrid star Pablo Barrios is also being considered.
However, the Bournemouth midfielder, who is valued at £78m, could be the preferable target, considering he has already proven himself in the Premier League, making 83 appearances in the competition, during which time he's picked up five goals and two assists.
The Englishman has made a flying start to the season too, scoring in the Cherries' 1-1 draw against Everton, on a day when he put in a very impressive all-round performance.

Scout Antonio Mango was also full of praise for the central midfielder's display against Newcastle United last time out, with Marco Rose's side drawing 2-2 at St. James' Park on Saturday.
At 23-years-old, the maestro could be an excellent long-term replacement for Fernandez, and there has now been a further update on the Blues' pursuit.

The former Bristol City man is the Blues' primary midfield target, and they even made late contact with Bournemouth in an attempt to secure his signature at the end of the transfer window, but they were unsuccessful.
The Bournemouth midfielder has thus far been unwilling to commit to a new contract at the Vitality Stadium, and his current deal is set to expire in 2028, which means his current employers will have to make a decision regarding their prized asset's future soon.
However, they still have no desire to cash-in on Scott during the January transfer window, which means Chelsea may have to wait until the end of the season before they get their man.
