Charles Jourdain, UFC Winnipeg, Results, UFC

Charles Jourdain isn’t overlooking Marlon Vera ahead of UFC 331 despite his losing skid.

Jourdain is set to fight Vera in what should be a fan-friendly fight at bantamweight. Vera enters the fight on a four-fight losing skid and is 1-5 in his last six. Yet, despite all the setbacks, Jourdain believes he’s still an elite fighter and someone he’s not overlooking.

“You cannot be in the UFC and treat a former world title challenger as a guy who’s going down,” Jourdain said at UFC 331 media day. “I don’t think it’s possible. He didn’t get knocked out, didn’t get finished in all those fights. Some of those were razor-thin close. Some of them, I thought he won, as well. ‘Chito’ is dangerous even though he’s 33 and on a four-fight losing streak. It would be very stupid for me to think it’s a walk in the park.”

Jourdain knows Vera is still as tough as they come and comes to fight, which is why he can’t overlook him.

Charles Jourdain expects to finish Marlon Vera at UFC 331

Although Jourdain isn’t underestimating Vera, he does have confidence in himself.

The Canadian believes he’s much better at bantamweight and his power will lead to a stoppage win, whether it’s by knock out a submission.

“I think I can finish him,” Jourdain added. “I wouldn’t have accepted this matchup, I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have this crazy belief I could finish anybody in the 135-pound division. Victor Henry was never finished as well, submission or KO. Davey Grant, I almost KO’d him but finished him with a guillotine for the show. I was the first of many men.”

Jourdain enters UFC 331 with a record of 18-8-1 and is coming off a decision win over Kyler Phillips. Since dropping down to 135lbs, Jourdain is 3-0, with his other wins coming by submission against Davey Grant and Victor Henry.
