Trade conversations between the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks on Giannis Antetokounmpo broke down over what was offered and not due to what his extension would like following the trade.

ESPN's Shams Charania was asked about a report that suggested the Celtics were hoping to get Antetokounmpo to commit to an extension at 30 percent of the cap rather than 35 percent. Charania indicated that was inaccurate.

"The breakdown with the Giannis-Boston conversations was very simple," said Charania on the Pat McAfee Show. "The Celtics did not want to give up Hugo Gonzalez and or Baylor Scheierman and another draft asset when the Bucks asked for that, from my reporting. That was the breakdown in that conversation. The [Celtics] didn't want to add any of the young players. Their final offer was Jaylen Brown, two first-round picks. That's what it was."

Antetokounmpo was instead traded to the Miami Heat and the Celtics then pivoted to other scenarios involving Brown. After initially setting a high asking price for Brown, they eventually traded him to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George and multiple future first round picks.
