The Cavaliers have decided to retain guard Craig Porter Jr. for the 2026/27 season, exercising their team option on his contract, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.

The move was later confirmed by the organization.

Porter’s option is worth $2,406,205 and remains non-guaranteed for now, though it will become fully guaranteed if he remains on the roster through January 10.

The 26-year-old appeared in a career-high 64 games last season, making three starts and averaging 4.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 17.9 minutes per game.

Since entering the league as an undrafted free agent out of Wichita State, Porter has steadily carved out a role in Cleveland’s rotation.

His opportunities were more limited during the playoffs, however, as the Cavaliers leaned heavily on Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, Sam Merrill, and Dennis Schroder in the backcourt.

Porter appeared in seven postseason games but was used exclusively in garbage-time situations.

By picking up the option, Cleveland keeps Porter under contract for another season.

He is currently on track to become an unrestricted free agent next summer unless the two sides agree to a contract extension before then.
