Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will play a prominent role on the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano broadcast this weekend.

Cain Velasquez is a free man after he was released from a California prison earlier this year, after spending almost a full year behind bars stemming from attempted murder and weapons charges. Velasquez was released from prison way earlier than expected, and envisions a return to Mixed Martial Arts in a non-fighting role.

Velasquez, 43, could potentially appear as an assistant coach under Daniel Cormier for the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. The former UFC heavyweight champion ended his MMA fighting career after a first-round knockout loss to Francis Ngannou in February 2019.

Ahead of the massive Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano card this weekend in Los Angeles, many top MMA personalities are expected to be in attendance. This includes Velasquez, who will appear on the broadcast alongside Cormier’s biggest UFC rival.

Velasquez will appear as a guest analyst, alongside former two-division UFC champion Jon Jones, on the Netflix broadcast of Rousey vs. Carano this Saturday. While the extent of Velasquez’s involvement on the broadcast is unclear, as of this writing, it’ll mark his first appearance at a major MMA event since his release from prison.

Velasquez’s last UFC rival, Ngannou, will fight on the card against Philipe Lins in his highly anticipated return to the Octagon. Another one of Velasquez’s rivals, Junior dos Santos, will also appear at the event against former UFC heavyweight prospect Robelis Despaigne.

Velasquez is undoubtedly one of the greatest heavyweights to ever compete inside the Octagon. He defeated the likes of Brock Lesnar, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Travis Browne during his illustrious career.
