The Milwaukee Brewers have placed outfielder Brandon Lockridge on the 10-day IL with a right knee laceration and contusion. Blake Perkins has been recalled from Triple-A Nashville. Perkins' asset is that he's good against right-handed pitchers. The Brewers remain 5.5 games out of first in the NL Central. 

The knee injury occurred on a hard collision with the wall on May 8 versus the New York Yankees. His right knee collided with a section of the ''Wall of Honor'' that's not cushioned. Following the injury, he was carted off the field. The Brewers blanked the Yankees, winning 6-0. 

While Lockridge's X-rays were negative for fractures, the injury was still severe enough that it has left him sidelined. The laceration was deep down to the bone. 

The 29-year-old needs to get an MRI on his knee to get an exact timeline on his return, but he will definitely will miss time. 

How the Brandon Lockridge injury impacts the Brewers

Before the injury, Lockridge was performing well, hitting .294 with 12 RBI and five stolen bases. His five stolen bases accounted for solid sprint speed (94th percentile). 

He's known for being a reliable on-base threat who collected 25 hits while serving as an effective bottom-of-the-order hitter. 

His potent spring training (1.095 OPS) was a positive sign that was carried over into the regular season. He offers outfield depth as an impactful player whose ability to contribute both offensively and defensively makes him valuable.
