Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong has arguably been the best player in baseball this season. The Milwaukee Brewers, however, have limited his production.

Crow-Armstrong entered Friday with a .281/.375/.572 batting line in his 659 plate appearances, hitting 41 homers and 28 doubles while stealing 36 bases. The likely National League MVP is seemingly well on his way to becoming the seventh member of the 40/40 club as he has just over two weeks left to steal four more bases.

That performance has not been there against the Brewers. Crow-Armstrong managed a meager .163/.281/.286 batting line in 57 plate appearances against Milwaukee pitching, hitting two homers while striking out 21 times. Meanwhile, the Brewers won nine of their 13 games against the Cubs this season.

Pete Crow-Armstrong's struggles against Milwaukee Brewers could torpedo Chicago Cubs playoff hopes

The Brewers have been Crow-Armstrong's kryptonite throughout his career. He has posted a .180/.282/.377 batting line over his 144 plate appearances against the Brewers, hitting seven homers and three doubles. 

Those struggles could become magnified in October. The Brewers and Cubs are both in playoff spots, with the Brewers holding the best record in the majors (91-56), while the Cubs are the second wild-card entrant. Although third baseman Alex Bregman has heated up offensively since Aug. 1, the Cubs will go as far as Crow-Armstrong can take them. Should those playoff journeys collide, the Cubs will need Crow-Armstrong to buck history and put together a strong showing against Milwaukee. Otherwise, the 2026 season could end in disappointment on the North Side.
