The injury bug has seemed to make a living in the Atlanta Braves clubhouse this season. It has bitten the lineup, starting rotation and bullpen all so far this season for the Atlanta.

Things aren't looking up for two starting pitchers for the Braves either, as revealed by manager Walt Weiss ahead of Friday's game.

Spencer Schwellenbach and Spencer Strider may not pitch again this season

While answering a question from Braves insider Mark Bowman on Friday, Weiss said it's hard to say whether or not either one of Schwellenbach or Strider pitch again this season.

Bowman asked Weiss if it was an accurate feeling that neither of the two would return this season, prompting an answer from Weiss.

"I wouldn't say that's inaccurate. I think there's a chance we see both of them return this year," Weiss told Bowman. "But sitting here today, it's hard to say." 

Strider has made eight starts this season, pitching to a 5.31 ERA across 39 innings. He's currently on the IL with an elbow injury. Schwellenbach has yet to appear this season after suffering an elbow injury of his own during the 2025 season.

Atlanta desperately needs pitching help

Outside of Chris Sale every fifth day, the Braves do not have a clear No. 2 option in the rotation. The hopeful returns of Strider and Schwellenbach before the season ends seem to be getting less and less likely by the day.

Atlanta should certainly be in the market for a starting pitcher leading into the MLB trade deadline on Aug. 3.
