Orgo-Life the new way to the future

Jose Soriano made his debut for the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night against the Philadelphia Phillies, making his 23rd start of the season.

Considering he's pitched on 12 days' rest, Soriano was expected to be a bit rusty in his debut with the Blue Jays, but he provided an encouraging start for his new team.

Soriano delivered a solid performance, getting Phillies hitters to chase. Soriano went 4 and 2/3 innings, gave up four hits, with three strikeouts, two runs (one earned), three walks, but generated 18 whiffs, a season-high for the 27-year-old.

He also retired the side in order in the first inning with a strikeout against the first batter he faced, Kyle Schwarber. While a solid effort, he was unable to pick up the win because he didn't pitch five innings. Soriano's performance demonstrates what's to come for the future with the Blue Jays, who held on to win 5-4 over the Phillies.

Walks have been an issue recently for Soriano, with three given up in the game; he successfully used his swing-and-miss dominance with back-to-back strikeouts to pitch out of a jam with two runners on and zero outs in the bottom of the fifth.

Soriano then came out of the game with a 3-2 lead, and left-handed reliever Mason Fluharty came on in relief for him, and they both escaped the inning with no damage done. While there is room for improvement with Soriano, his encouraging debut was a positive kickoff for the Blue Jays.

Jose Soriano's encouraging performance a glimpse of what's to come for the Blue Jays

Through 56 pitches, Soriano demonstrated a concentrated effort of commanding the zone, as he went 15-for-15 with first-pitch strikes. He also utilized his pitches well with his four-seamer and knuckle- curveball.

Soriano was acquired on the Monday trade deadline, adding a solid top-of-the-rotation starter alongside ace Dylan Cease, who had Blue Jays prospects Arjun Nimmala, Eddie Micheletti Jr. and Angel Rivero sent to the Los Angeles Angels

With the Blue Jays rotation being so fraught this season, Soriano provides the Blue Jays with a glimpse of dominance as he will be expected to deliver stronger performances as the season progresses and stabilize the rotation.

But Soriano's debut illustrated a far from disappointing outing for the Blue Jays, with a positive outlook for what's to come for the rest of the season. The Blue Jays also gained solid contributions from Brett Bateman, who had a double, two walks and three runs, and Josh Smith, who recorded a home run and a stolen base. Matt Waldron also shone, further showcasing how their newly acquired additions, including Soriano, could provide a bright future for the team.
