Dylan Cease has now become the seventh Toronto Blue Jays pitcher to record a 200-strikeout season. 

The Blue Jays ace came into Sunday's game against the New York Yankees nine strikeouts away from achieving the feat and successfully earned it by striking out Trent Grisham in the top of the sixth inning. Cease also got Grisham to strikeout three times in the game. 

The last Jays starting pitcher to earn the achievement was Kevin Gausman in 2023 with 237 strikeouts.

Cease has now recorded 200+ strikeouts for the sixth straight season and, according to Codify Baseball, he's one of five active MLB pitchers with the most 200-strikeout seasons including Max Scherzer (nine), Justin Verlander (nine) Chris Sale (eight) and Gerrit Cole who ties Cease with six. 

Cease is also the first pitcher in the American League (AL) this season to record 200 strikeouts; the only pitcher who has more than him this season is Jacob Misiorowski. Cease just continues to make a compelling case as the favorite for AL Cy Young as the Yankees have recently gone 0-for-4 in Cam Schlittler's last four starts; despite pitching well, the Yankees have averaged just 2.8 runs during that stretch.

It's another strong outing in the books for the 30-year-old Cease, who pitched six and 1/3 innings with two hits, two earned runs, three walks and 10 strikeouts against the Yankees. 

In the top of the seventh inning, he exited the game, getting a standing ovation from the Toronto fans at the Rogers Centre following another dominant performance and earning a huge milestone in his career. 

He continues to be a durable workhorse on the mound, excelling in his first season with the Blue Jays as he has put up a bounce-back performance with an improved 2.36 ERA following his 4.55 ERA with the San Diego Padres last season. 

Cease has also struck out at least seven batters across 17 straight starts since May 2, showcasing impressive consistency as a frontline starter in the Blue Jays rotation.
