Daniel is an experienced football writer and editor, having worked in the football media industry for over a decade.

After voluntarily writing for Fresh Press for two years, helping to build and establish the Read brand, Daniel started a part-time job with Fresh Press that later turned into a full-time writing and editing role, writing for club-specific pages such as Read Norwich, Read Celtic, Read Liverpool, and Read Arsenal.

Daniel spent just shy of a year writing and editing for Liverpool-based website, Anfield Watch, which included conducting and/or transcribing interviews with Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, former Wycombe striker Adebayo Akinfenwa, and journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Since the summer of 2021, Daniel has worked for Snack Media (now Valnet) and has been a contributor to Football FanCast, on a freelance and full-time basis, as a writer and editor.

Daniel is a Norwich City fan and season ticket holder. He has been heard on BBC Norfolk and helped DAZN with research for their commentary due to his knowledge of the club, along with being featured in several local papers across the country, including the Coventry Telegraph and the Liverpool Echo, for Norwich-related content.

Daniel's knowledge extends to Scottish football, having covered Celtic and Rangers for several years. He particularly enjoys producing player analysis and producing transfer content.

Glasgow Rangers head coach Danny Rohl needs to improve his options across the defence when the summer transfer window opens for business later this month.

The Light Blues have already signed Lawrence Shankland from Hearts to add to their attacking ranks, but they conceded the most goals (43) among the teams that finished in the top four of the Scottish Premiership this season.

Motherwell, Hearts, and Celtic all conceded fewer goals than the Gers, who did not keep a clean sheet in any of their last eight matches in the division.

It has already been reported that the Scottish giants are leading the race to sign left-footed Dundee centre-back Luke Graham to bolster their options at the back.

Dundee, though, conceded 61 goals in 38 games in the Premiership, and it remains to be seen how his qualities will translate to playing for a better team.

Rangers pushing for agreement to sign Swedish central defender

Rangers, who conceded two goals in their win over Falkirk on the final day of the season, are looking at alternative options to the Scottish defender in their pursuit of improving their defensive record.

In fact, the Scottish giants are said to be looking to bring in a star from abroad who could be an even better signing than Graham for the Light Blues.

According to Football Insider, Glasgow Rangers are pushing for a swift agreement to bring Casper Widell to Ibrox from Dutch side Excelsior in the summer transfer window, as they believe that he would be an ideal signing for their defence.

The report claims that the Gers are hopeful that they can conclude a quick deal for the central defender to beat off competition from other clubs in the off-season.

It adds that the 23-year-old colossus has one year left on his contract with his club and that he could be available for a fee of between £2m and £2.5m this summer.

Rangers are now looking to move quickly to sign Widell because they want to ensure that they beat Blackburn Rovers and Derby County, who are also keen on him, to his signature.

Why Casper Widell would be a better Rangers signing than Luke Graham

Whilst Graham would be an interesting addition to the squad as a proven Premiership performer and young Scottish talent, Widell could be an even better signing for the Gers.

The big difference between playing for Dundee and playing for Rangers as a centre-back is that there is far more expected of them in possession, as the Gers dominate most matches and need their defenders to show quality and composure on the ball.

Widell's form for Excelsior in the top-flight in the Netherlands suggests that he is more suited to making that leap in possession than Graham is, as he showed more quality with the ball at his feet than the Scotland U21 international.

The Swedish central defender's passing numbers were more impressive than Graham's across the board, and it is particularly worth noting their respective accurate passes in the opposition's half per game.

Widell averaged just over four more passes per game in the opponent's half, which shows that he is far more used to having the ball at his feet high up the pitch and finding his teammates in advanced positions.

Whilst Graham played in a struggling Dundee team that did not give him too many opportunities to showcase his ability in possession, the fact is that the Gers cannot confidently say that he will excel on the ball in a dominant team.

That is why it would be a risk, in a sense, to sign the left-footed defender, because it is hard to gauge whether or not he would be suited to playing in a possession-dominant side that have the ball high up the pitch.

Widell, who was described as a "leader" by RangersJournal's Kai Watson, looks more suited to slotting straight into the team as a ball-playing centre-back, whilst he also won 61% of his duels in the Eredivise and showed that he can be a dominant out-and-out defender.

The Swedish titan, therefore, looks like an even better centre-back than Graham and could be a better signing for the Gers if they can get this deal over the line for £2.5m.
