Bennedict Mathurin and the New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to a two-year, $16 million contract with a player option that will allow him to become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

Mathurin has been a restricted free agent this offseason with the Los Angeles Cilppers.

Mathurin's agents approached the Clippers to withdraw his $8.8 million qualifying offer to essentially sign for the same amount with the Pelicans where he can play in a more favorable situation. The Clippers have yet to withdraw the qualifying offer but they will work with Mathurin to find a resolution that gets him to the Pelicans.

The Clippers acquired Mathurin as part of the Ivica Zubac trade with the Indiana Pacers that also netted the pick that became Keaton Wagler.

Mathurin averaged 17.6 points and 5.4 rebounds last season.
