Austin Reaves is staying with the Los Angeles Lakers after agreeing to a new four-year contract worth $185 million that includes a player option for the 2029-30 season.

The deal comes after Reaves declined his $14.9 million player option for next season and entered free agency.

His cap hold will remain on the Lakers’ books until the team completes the rest of its offseason moves, after which his new contract will begin at approximately $41.3 million annually.

The agreement is the largest contract ever signed by an undrafted player in NBA history.

While the Lakers had the ability to offer an even larger five-year deal, Reaves opted for a four-year agreement that still exceeds what any rival team could have offered.

Reaves was expected to draw interest from teams such as the Nets and Pistons following a breakout season in which he averaged career highs of 23.3 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game.

Despite missing time due to calf and oblique injuries, he continued to establish himself as one of the Lakers’ most important players.

Reaves has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain in Los Angeles long term.

“I want to be in LA. I want to play my whole career in LA. I love it there. I love the fans. Love the weather, love the golf,” Reaves told K8 News.

“And obviously the Lakers are the best organization in basketball.”
