ASVEL and Monaco have been at the center of attention in French basketball in recent weeks, with both clubs navigating important transitions while preparing for what could be a brighter future.

Speaking on the NoA Basket show, LNB president Philippe Ausseur expressed confidence in the direction ASVEL is heading, pointing to the club’s growing financial strength and long-term ambitions under Tony Parker.

“We could call this season a transitional one, more endured than provoked. But it is true that the club is heading towards a very large budget.”

According to Ausseur, ASVEL is expected to operate with a budget of around €40 million, a development he believes will benefit both the club and the French league as a whole.

“A budget of around €40 million is being announced. This is very good for our championship; there could be major players, whether French or foreign, which is something to be happy about.”

Ausseur also addressed Monaco’s situation, suggesting that the club is moving closer to a new chapter thanks to an ambitious takeover project currently being discussed.

“There is a real, ambitious takeover project. That is why the league ensured that everything didn’t fall apart.”

While acknowledging that current owner Aleksej Fedorycsev remains a key figure in the process, Ausseur indicated that a change in leadership may eventually be necessary.

“Mr. Fedorycsev could be the sticking point; he’s holding on, but he must realize that he can no longer keep up and needs to pass the baton.”

The LNB president added that Monaco could also be backed by a budget in the €30-40 million range if the project moves forward.

“We are looking at a project worth 30 to 40 million. At least 30. This too is a good thing. We can only rejoice if Monaco manages to restart.”

With both ASVEL and Monaco potentially operating with significantly larger budgets, Ausseur believes their growth could provide a major boost to French basketball.
