Aston Villa are on the verge of completing one of the biggest transfers of the Premier League summer.

A total agreement has been reached with Chelsea for Nicolas Jackson, who is expected to replace Ollie Watkins in Unai Emery’s attack.

Villa will pay an initial £47.5 million for the Senegal international, with performance-related bonuses potentially taking the package to £65 million.

Personal terms are being finalised and Jackson is expected to undergo his medical before completing the move, and the agreement follows a major development involving Watkins.

Villa have accepted an offer worth around £50 million from Al Hilal after the England striker made it clear that he wanted to move to Saudi Arabia, so Jackson will arrive as a direct replacement.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich, scoring 11 goals in 33 league and Champions League appearances, but didn't quite do enough to earn a permanent move and returned to Chelsea.

Emery already understands Jackson from their time together at Villarreal, but Jackson might not be the only major attacking arrival at Villa Park.

Tammy Abraham has been given permission to join Ipswich Town on loan, and allowing him to leave would remove another salary from Villa’s budget whilst creating space for a new winger.

That space could be used for Rafael Leão.

Italian journalist Marco Ramiccia reports that a Villa delegation has travelled to Milan today for direct talks with the 'extraordinary' Portugal international.

A face-to-face meeting is expected to take place as Villa attempt to convince Leao that he should choose the Premier League.

Ramiccia also claims Villa are prepared to improve their financial proposal to the player after initially offering around £7 million per season.

There is considerable urgency because Galatasaray have already made progress on both sides of the deal.

David Ornstein reports that AC Milan have accepted a package worth around £38.6 million from the Turkish champions. However, Leao has not yet approved the transfer and is continuing to consider his future.

That delay has given Villa time to match Milan’s terms and improve their contract offer, with seperate reports indicating that super agent Jorge Mendes is pushing Leao towards Villa.

Galatasaray are reportedly prepared to pay Leao between €10 million and €12 million net per year. Villa must therefore decide how far they are willing to stretch their wage structure.

Villa have discussed a loan containing an obligation to buy, while Milan would prefer an immediate permanent sale.

Leao is most dangerous when starting from the left, where he can isolate defenders, accelerate into space and carry the ball towards goal.

Signing both him and Jackson would completely reshape Emery’s forward department following the expected departures of Watkins and Abraham.

Galatasaray have had a bid accepted, but they do not yet have the most important agreement. Leao must still choose his next club, and Villa’s trip to Milan represents a final attempt to change his mind.
