Aston Villa are eyeing a summer move for an "incredible" star, with Liverpool now prepared to sanction a transfer.

Aston Villa set out summer plans as season draws to close

Following the Europa League triumph, joint Villa owner Nassef Sawaris is set to hold talks with Unai Emery regarding plans for the upcoming window, and the Spaniard is said to have been handed a transfer budget of £100m.

Sawaris was overjoyed with the 2-1 victory against SC Freiburg in Istanbul, and suggested there may be plenty more trophies to come, saying: "It's amazing. It means a lot. I can’t express myself with words.

"It's very special. An eight year ride and we saw here what hard work can do with Unai' effort and the whole team. It's an amazing win. And the sky's the limit."

As ever, it will be important to get the recruitment right though, and a number of targets have already been identified, such as Fulham star Harry Wilson, who is set to leave the Cottagers on a free transfer, while Como winger Jesus Rodriguez and Celta Vigo midfielder IIaix Moriba are also of interest.

Emery is determined to keep hold of Youri Tielemans beyond the summer, with the Belgian picking up two goals and seven assists in all competitions this season but the manager wants to strengthen the midfield regardless, with Moriba among the options, alongside a Premier League star.

Aston Villa set sights on Curtis Jones

According to a report from Caught Offside, Aston Villa are plotting a move for Curtis Jones, with Liverpool now prepared to cash-in on the midfielder during the summer transfer window, should they receive a fee of €40m (£35m).

Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan are also credited with an interest in Jones, given that talks regarding a contract extension at Anfield have stalled, with his current deal set to expire at the end of next season.

Should the Reds be unable to come to an agreement with their academy graduate, it could make sense to sanction a move this summer, but the current asking price is off-putting for potential suitors.

Liverpool's Curtis Jones in action

Scout Jacek Kulig has previously lauded the 25-year-old, saying last season: "He’s an outstanding ball carrier with exceptional technical ability, a high football IQ, and an incredible work rate. An impressive blend of a box-to-box midfielder and a roaming playmaker."

The six-cap England international is also versatile enough to play at right-back, receiving plaudits after impressing in that position in a 3-1 victory against Crystal Palace last month.

However, earlier in the campaign, the two-time Premier League winner often struggled to hold down a consistent place in the starting XI as a central midfielder, regularly being used as a substitute, which raises doubts about whether Aston Villa shelling out £35m on him would be savvy.
