Who and what is this shoe for?
The Novablast 6 is a workhorse shoe, designed for everyday miles and some longer weekend efforts. ASICS says that the trampoline pod is an energetic added extra for race-day propulsion too, giving this shoe even more versatility.
How does it fit?
These Novablasts fit perfectly. Half a size up, there’s a decent amount of wriggle room in the toebox. I have a high arch and, by default, need some give around the midsole, but that all feels very comfortable for my trotters in this shoe.
Are the Novablast 6 comfortable?
The Novablasts have a very familiar feeling of comfort. Underfoot, they’re like a comfy slipper, the upper is a slightly thicker woven material, while the tongue is semi-padded, which is exactly the style I like. The heel is very padded – something I associate with longer, more comfortable running.

ASICS Novablast 6 run test
I’m on the fence about the improved benefits of this shoe. Its comfortable but hard-working persona continues in this latest version. But that being said, I couldn’t really feel that race day pep that was suggested by its description. In fact, I actually feel a little quicker and more comfortable in the Novablast cousins, the Gel-Nimbus. Perhaps I can actually feel the difference between the BLAST PLUS cushioning in that shoe?
Don’t get me wrong though: I like the Novablast a lot. It is comfortable, plush and guided me through a number of training runs very happily indeed. For me, it didn’t offer quite enough in terms of plushness to be a shoe for long-distance training, or the energy return to be a technical one. For everyday running, they are ace.
Should I buy them?
That depends on what you need. There’s a lot of choice from ASICS, and this is a good-value offering with a lot of tech. If you need a great everyday shoe, and you’re an ASICS fan, they’re certainly worth a look.
