Making his case for the Hall of Fame undeniable, Aroldis Chapman reached a major career milestone on Sunday. 

By shutting the door on the Baltimore Orioles and securing the Boston Red Sox's 3-1 win, Chapman recorded his 400th career save.

His 33rd save of 2026, one more than what he finished with last season and just four away from matching his career-high, came after allowing only one hit and striking out two batters in his lone inning of work against Baltimore. 

Chapman, now 23 saves from moving up MLB's all-time saves list again into the No. 8 spot, passed Dennis Eckersley earlier in the season. The recently Cooperstown-enshrined Billy Wagner sits above Chapman with 422.

Chapman's latest milestone also occurred in a season that's going to end up as one of the best of his overall career. He now has a 2.03 ERA, 65 strikeouts and a 1.13 WHIP to go along with his 33 saves from 48.2 innings to this point. However, he was even better last year, tallying 32 saves with an eye-popping 1.17 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 2025, his first full season in Boston.

And with the Baseball Hall of Fame opening its doors to relief pitchers beyond just those who are argued to be the greatest ever, Mariano Rivera and Trevor Hoffman, Chapman's name will be a tough one to ignore for voters. Unless, of course, they take into account the character clause and hold a past domestic violence accusation against him. 

Career-wise, Chapman, a nine-time All-Star, owns a cumulative 2.49 ERA and 1,396 strikeouts and 63 wins, as well as 400 saves and counting in the middle of his 17th season. The Cuban native even has 11 postseason saves and has been a member of two World Series-winning teams with the 2016 Chicago Cubs and the 2023 Texas Rangers.
