Anthony Edwards addressed the Minnesota Timberwolves being included among LeBron James’ potential destinations, but the franchise star admitted he does not believe the team is currently among James’ top choices.

“I have nothing to say about it because I’ve seen his top three teams, we’re not in it,” Edwards said when asked about Minnesota being on James’ reported shortlist.

Edwards had previously made a public recruiting pitch toward the four-time NBA MVP, delivering a playful message to James: “Bron Bron… Come to Minnesota. We got your card man.”

The comment added Edwards’ voice to the growing speculation surrounding James’ next team as he enters his 24th NBA season. However, Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson previously reported that Edwards had not personally reached out to James about joining the Timberwolves, noting that such a call would immediately elevate Minnesota’s position in the free agency conversation.

Minnesota has remained connected to James alongside teams such as the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors. ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins recently identified the Timberwolves as a strong basketball fit for James if his priority is competing for another championship.

Perkins pointed to Minnesota’s roster construction, including Edwards, newly acquired LaMelo Ball and one of the league’s strongest defensive groups, as reasons James could fit with the franchise.

The Timberwolves enter the offseason after a 49-33 regular season that earned them the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference. Minnesota defeated the Denver Nuggets in the first round before falling to the San Antonio Spurs in six games during the conference semifinals.

The Spurs advanced to the NBA Finals before losing to the New York Knicks in five games.

Minnesota has since reshaped its roster by acquiring Ball and Josh Green from the Charlotte Hornets while trading Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets. Randle averaged 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 79 games during the 2025-26 season.

James could theoretically replace much of that offensive production. The 41-year-old averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds in 60 games for the Los Angeles Lakers last season while shooting 51.5% from the field. Los Angeles finished 53-29, won the Pacific Division and reached the Western Conference semifinals.

Edwards remains Minnesota’s centerpiece after another elite season. The 24-year-old averaged 28.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 48.9% overall and 39.9% from three-point range.

The Timberwolves also continue to have a defensive foundation built around Rudy Gobert and Jaden McDaniels. Gobert averaged 10.9 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks while shooting 68.2% from the field, while McDaniels contributed 14.8 points per game on 51.5% shooting.

Golden State has reportedly explored ways to improve its chances of landing James, including pursuing Anthony Davis, but ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the Warriors are currently behind several Eastern Conference contenders. Washington has shown no interest in moving Davis after acquiring him at the trade deadline.

James has not announced his decision, leaving Minnesota and the other interested teams waiting as one of the NBA’s biggest offseason storylines continues.
