Anthony Black and the Orlando Magic are not expected to reach agreement on a contract extension before the October 19th deadline. The two sides have not yet engaged in serious extension talks either during the offseason or since training camps have begun.

The Magic have Desmond Bane, Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero on long-term contracts at high numbers, which complicates their salary cap outlook.

Jeff Weltman decided to run back the core of their roster after.a disappointing 2025-26 season, but replaced Jamahl Mosley with Sean Sweeney as head coach.

Unless there is a significant change to the negotiation positions of the two sides, Black will likely head to restricted free agency during the 2027 offseason.

Black, who was the sixth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, appeared in 64 games last season and averaged 15.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 29.8 minutes.
