The Reds need to bring new quality through the door, but they also need to maintain growth from the lower levels up to the senior side.
Rio Ngumoha is the latest example of how entrusting youth with opportunities to impress can bear dividends, and now, FSG are looking to repeat the trick.
Liverpool in talks to sign new wonderkid
Aged 17, Ngumoha has probably been the brightest shining light to have emerged from Liverpool's disastrous campaign. Hailed for his "incredible quality" on the ball and the "fearlessness of youth" by commentator Gary Lineker, the winger has the potential to develop into a superstar.
WIthout him, Anfield might be at an even lower ebb right now, and sporting director Richard Hughes is now looking to repeat the trick with one of Germany's most exciting young midfielders.
According to Sky Germany, Liverpool have stormed into the race for Hertha Berlin teenager Kennet Eichhorn, opening talks to bring the player to Anfield. Aged 16, the German youth international has broken into the first team.
With a release clause in the region of €12m (£10m), this could be a shrewd deal indeed, especially when considering how the 16-year-old is tipped to grow into one of Europe's leading midfielders in the coming years.
Why Eichhorn could be Liverpool's new Ngumoha
Ngumoha's blistering pace and natural potency in the final third have seen him cement himself in Slot's first team, and Eichhorn could do the same next year, challenging more experienced teammates and dictating from the middle of the park.
Eichhorn is a tempo-setter, skilled in controlling the rhythm of a match and driving forward to spark offensive sequences when collecting inside the centre circle. He's "unbelievable" in the words of former Hertha man Toni Leistner.
Impressive is his physicality in midfield, winning over four duels per Bundesliga 2. match this season, flying in with tackles and challenges.

It's remarkable for such a young midfielder to have showcased such combative stats in the middle of the park. It should go without saying that playing for Liverpool in the Premier League would represent a significant step up, but Eichhorn has shown that he is up for the task, for he is only going to improve over the next few years.
To borrow an iconic phrase from legendary Manchester United manager Sir Matt Busby, "If you're good enough, you're old enough". This is true for Ngumoha, and Eichhorn might just fall under that same umbrella following several months of integration on Merseyside.
Liverpool need to make signings of greater seniority in midfield this summer. After all, Mac Allister could be headed for the exit after a wretched year, and an already elite replacement will be required there, lest Liverpool sink even deeper into their hole.
But this would be a shrewd signing that could pay off handsomely in the future, and it's one that FSG need to get over the line in the coming weeks. If they don't Eichhorn will grow into a superstar somewhere else, leaving FSG with regret.
