The unbeaten Cuban will face Mexico’s Abraham Montoya (24-7-1, 14 KOs) on the DAZN card. The 31-year-old Montoya steps into one of the biggest opportunities of his career after building a reputation for taking on unbeaten prospects and established contenders.
Montoya has shared the ring with several notable names during his career. He owns victories over Antonio Perez, Joseph Diaz and Ricardo Lara while also facing Gabriel Flores Jr., Andres Cortes, Moussa Gholam, Marc Castro and Tsendbaatar Erdenebat.
His biggest win came in April when he upset the previously unbeaten Perez by split decision to capture the vacant WBC USA Silver lightweight title. The victory snapped a three-fight losing streak and earned Montoya another chance against one of boxing’s top young talents.
Montoya has fought professionally since 2016 and has rarely turned down difficult assignments, making him a dependable opponent for rising contenders and prospects.

Cruz will be looking to bounce back after suffering the first defeat of his professional career, a majority decision loss to Raymond Muratalla in January for the vacant IBF lightweight title. A victory over Montoya would get the 2020 Olympic gold medalist back on track before his reported move to the super featherweight division.
