Andrea Bonacorsi of the Red Bull Ducati Factory MXGP Team will not compete again this season in the FIM Motocross World Championship. The Italian has not yet sufficiently recovered from the food poisoning that affected him during the Grand Prix of Turkey. In consultation with the team, it has been decided that he will skip the rounds in China and Australia.

Bonacorsi fell ill last weekend in Afyonkarahisar. Despite suffering from food poisoning, he attempted to continue with his race programme. On Saturday, he competed in the qualifying race, and on Sunday morning he also lined up for the opening moto.

However, because he had not recovered sufficiently and was unable to perform at his usual level, Bonacorsi, together with the Red Bull Ducati Factory MXGP Team, decided not to take part in the second moto.

It has since become clear that the Italian has still not fully recovered. The next two Grands Prix also form a demanding overseas double-header, with the first round taking place in Shanghai, China, followed by the season finale in Darwin, Australia.

Bonacorsi and Ducati have therefore decided not to take any further risks and will skip both rounds. The Italian has returned to his home country, where he will undergo further medical examinations and focus fully on his recovery.

It is not yet known whether this will affect Bonacorsi’s participation in the Motocross of Nations.
