Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayConor Benn’s expected September fight against Ryan Garcia could finally give him the type of win that changes how fans view him, at least in the eyes of Amir Khan.
Garcia is widely viewed as the favorite if the fight is finalized for September 12 in Las Vegas, but Khan believes Benn is being underestimated going into the matchup.
“A lot of people are going to lean more towards Ryan Garcia in that fight because he’s been with the bigger names and fought in the bigger arenas,” Khan said when discussing the rumored welterweight fight during an interview with Boxing News. “But one thing about Conor Benn is that you can’t blink because at the end of the day, he can come and take that W.”
Khan also believes the fight could give Benn the breakthrough moment he has been chasing since moving into the upper tier of the welterweight division.
“A lot of people are overlooking him,” Khan said. “He’s an underdog, but this might be the fight that he needs to make him that star that he wants to be.”
Benn has not fought at the welterweight limit since 2022. His recent fights against Chris Eubank Jr. were contested above the division, and his Zuffa Boxing debut against Regis Prograis was held at a 150-pound catchweight.
Garcia captured the WBC welterweight title earlier this year with a decision win over Mario Barrios and has repeatedly mentioned Benn as a target for his first defense. While the fight has not been officially announced, both sides have continued to speak publicly as though negotiations are moving toward completion.
