It is a specific commercial structure, and it applies very differently depending on where in the world you are chartering. Understanding which model applies to a given yacht is one of the most useful pieces of information a charter guest can have before comparing weekly rates.

This is the general framework. The exact inclusions for a specific yacht always take precedence over this table — see the regional detail below, and confirm with your broker before booking.

The Industry Standard: APA Terms

Across most of the Mediterranean, the prevailing structure for superyacht charter remains the MYBA Advance Provisioning Allowance, or APA. Under this model, the published charter fee covers the yacht herself, her full crew, and standard onboard equipment — while a separate allowance, held on account and reconciled at the end of the charter, covers running costs that vary charter to charter: fuel, dockage, provisioning, and food and beverage.

This is not a hidden cost. It is the professional standard for how the majority of the world’s finest yachts are chartered, precisely because it allows each guest’s onboard spend to reflect what they actually consume, rather than averaging every charter into a flat rate. Where the Model Changes

A small number of yachts and destinations depart from the pure APA model — not because they operate at a different level of luxury, but because local market conventions, or a specific yacht’s own positioning, make a published all-inclusive rate more practical for guests.

Croatia. A small number of newer Croatian-flagged yachts publish a fixed, fully inclusive charter fee covering the full crew complement, meals, water toys, wellness facilities, and concierge services, with only Croatian VAT (13%), premium drink packages, crew gratuity, and any bespoke requests falling outside the rate.

Turkey. The gulet fleet operates predominantly under standard MYBA APA terms, though a number of the larger, more luxurious gulets quote a full-board day rate per guest, with a smaller residual APA — typically in the region of 15%, rising if the itinerary crosses into Greek waters — to cover incidentals such as port fees, spirits and tender fuel for watersports.

The Caribbean. Here, genuine all-inclusive pricing is the market norm rather than the exception. Rates are typically quoted per guest and cover the yacht, crew, meals, standard beverages, water toys, Wi-Fi and air conditioning. On top of the rate, guests should expect port and marina charges, crew gratuity, and VAT where applicable — several Caribbean

jurisdictions, including the US Virgin Islands, levy none at all.

The Maldives. Liveaboard-style luxury charters here are typically quoted close to fully inclusive: full board, a curated wine and spirits selection, unlimited non-alcoholic beverages, and water sports and diving for certified guests are usually built into the rate. A modest residual APA — commonly around 5% — still applies for incidentals, alongside Maldivian GST and a service charge.

Indonesia. The phinisi and explorer-yacht fleet offers some of the most comprehensive packages anywhere in the world, frequently extending to visas, airport transfers, diving, and even an allowance for fine wine and spirits. Local VAT and any consumption beyond that allowance are quoted separately, and the precise scope of “inclusive” varies meaningfully from one operator to the next — which is exactly where a broker’s knowledge of individual yachts matters most.

What Is Never Included, Anywhere

Regardless of destination or commercial model, three items sit outside every charter fee we quote:

Crew gratuity. Always discretionary, and never built into any rate. In Croatia specifically, local tax law means crew can only receive gratuity in cash.

Anything beyond the standard allowance. Fine wine above a package’s threshold, additional spa or massage hours, unscheduled excursions, and last-minute itinerary changes are quoted on request in every region.

Reading a Charter Proposal Like a Broker

A weekly rate on its own tells you very little. Before comparing two yachts — even within the same region — always confirm whether the figure is an APA rate or a genuinely all-inclusive rate, and precisely what sits outside it. A lower headline rate under APA terms can end up costing more once fuel, provisioning and dockage are reconciled than a higher, truly inclusive rate elsewhere.
