Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAgit Kabayel responded with respect after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles, praising the Ukrainian champion’s decision to step aside while making it clear he believes the division is ready for a new era.
Usyk announced Friday that he was vacating three of his heavyweight belts at age 39 as he prepares for one final fight before retiring. The move ends any chance of a title fight between Usyk and Kabayel, who had been in line as the WBC’s mandatory challenger.
Rather than expressing disappointment, the unbeaten German applauded Usyk for giving other heavyweights an opportunity to compete for the championships.
“A true champion is defined by his actions both inside and outside the ring.
“Usyk has won everything there is to win, fighting the best of the best and proving his greatness time and time again,” said Kabayel on Instagram.
“By putting down the belts, he once again shows his class. He isn’t holding the division back—he’s giving the next generation its chance.”
Kabayel admitted he had hoped to face Usyk before the former undisputed champion’s retirement but said his admiration for what Usyk accomplished outweighed any frustration.
“Of course, I wanted to share the ring with him one day, but I have nothing but respect for everything he has achieved. I wish him and his family nothing but the best.
“Because one thing is certain:
“I am ready to take over.”
Kabayel has built his position with a string of impressive wins over Arslanbek Makhmudov, Frank Sanchez, Zhilei Zhang, and Damian Knyba. With the WBC title now vacant, the interim champion is expected to play a central role in determining the sanctioning body’s next heavyweight champion later this year.
