On Wednesday, New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge called his teammates out for "a little lack of focus" amid what had become a six-game losing streak. 

The Yankees then suffered a frustrating 6-2 11-inning home loss to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. Following the defeat, Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke honestly about his club's summer swoon. 

Aaron Boone: Yankees have endured "a terrible week"

"It’s been a terrible week for us. There’s no way of sugarcoating it," Boone acknowledged, per Alex Smith of SNY. "We’re capable of way more, obviously. Look, you’re going to have stretches where it’s tough, where you’re missing some guys, but this was a really difficult week for us offensively, and coupled with not playing clean enough and taking care of the ball well enough, that’s what you get. You get an awful weak. Hopefully, we regroup on this off day and start playing better baseball this weekend." 

As Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News noted, the Yankees allowed 23 unearned runs in their last 12 games. They tallied just 23 hits over their last six contests, and they went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position on Wednesday. 

"It fu----- sucks. It’s a sh---- feeling," Yankees slugger Cody Bellinger said. "You want to contribute, and when you’re not succeeding, it’s very frustrating." 

Jazz Chisholm Jr. echoes Aaron Judge 

The Yankees were 36-23 when Judge first started missing games due to a stress fracture of the first rib on his right side. They fell to 48-38 hours after Judge didn't deny on Wednesday that it remains possible he won't return to the big-league lineup before September. 

Perhaps the best news for the Yankees is that they are off Thursday before they begin a three-game home series versus the Minnesota Twins (42-46) on Friday. 

"I feel like we just gotta lock in, do all the small stuff. We make a lot of mistakes, and I feel like we beat ourselves," Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. added. "I just feel like we all gotta look each other in the face and take accountability for each other, hold each other accountable, and let the other guy know. I feel like that’s how we always are, normally, and I feel like we’ve been missing that a little bit. We need to focus a little."

The Yankees will need to find that focus without Judge, who seemingly isn't all that close to resuming baseball activities.
